2020 World Triathlon/Paratriathlon Series Yokohama suspends the events due to the COVID-19 outbreak

The Organizing Committee of the WTS/WPS Yokohama (comprised of the City of Yokohama, the Yokohama Sport Association, the Japan Triathlon Union, and the Nikkan Sports) have decided to suspend the World Triathlon Series and World Paratriathlon Series Yokohama (the Event) scheduled for Saturday 16th- Sunday 17th May due to the impact from the wide spread COVID-19, by which the events for Elite, Paratriathlon and Age-Group categories were put on hold.

To date, we have been exploring every possible chance to deliver the Event as scheduled, while having continual discussions with the International Triathlon Union (ITU) in addition to all the organizations concerned.
However, with the Japanese government’s entry restrictions on people traveling from most parts of the world and considering the pandemic situation of novel coronavirus, we are finally compelled to make a difficult decision to suspend the Event of 16th and 17th May 2020 to our deep regret.

For those Age-Groupers who were looking forward to participating in this event, we will send you a gift that was specially produced as a token of commemoration for the Event. The entry fee and charity donation for this year’s Event will not be returned though, as defined in the entry consent form.We would highly appreciate your understanding toward the unprecedented situation affecting us all on the globe.

ITU/JTU and all the organizations involved are studying the new possible dates for the delivery of the Event as a ranking point event for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, taking into account the re-scheduled dates of the 2020 Games and the new qualification criteria that should be announced shortly.
